Green cleaning for a cleaner future

13-Nov-2010

Eco-Facilities Managers is no ordinary facilities management company. Founded by Zaeemah Robinson in April 2009, it assists businesses to become more sustainable in their day-to-day practices and save costs in the process. They do this by placing cleaning, maintenance, waste and recycling and help-desk teams into companies. The company also provides training courses on environmental awareness and sustainability relating to facilities services.

The products they use are locally produced and environmentally friendly, and they clean just as effectively as other, chemically-based cleaning products.

Zaeemah has over 10 years of experience in facilities management for large companies and used these skills to start her company. Being environmentally sensitive is a lifestyle for her, starting from small beginnings when she began recycling at home 15 years ago. When she decided to start the company she knew it had to focus on sustainable practices.

Zaeemah first came into contact with The Business Place eKapa in November 2009. Before that she had nearly given up on being able to get any help from small business support agencies. But, she says, The Business Place was different: the welcoming environment and valuable information she received have enabled her to move forward in her business.

Zaeemah attended several TBP training courses and received individual consultations. Now she regularly uses The Business Place for meetings and as a work area. It is central to her business and more importantly represents the type of environment in which she is comfortable from both an aesthetic and a professional point of view.

“I walked into TBP after having delayed going there and within half an hour
said 'oh my God! I wasted so many months and here is the right place'.”

Eco-Facilities Managers secured their first contract in February 2010 with the NPA in Cape Town. This allowed them to place a team of 10 employees there. Zaeemah feels the information she received at a TBP Tendering workshop was instrumental in enabling her to secure another tender, this time with the City of Cape Town for a contract doing a Rail Tourism Study.

This is just the beginning of Eco-Facilities Managers’ expansion and they can continue to rely on The Business Place to support them as the business grows.
